Synthetic Times - Media Art China 2008 opened at 5 pm on June 9th, 2008, with over 600 guests attending the opening ceremony, including more than 150 guests from around the world. Artforum's Chinese edition noted that Synthetic Times was the most comprehensive international show staged in China since 1985 when NAMOC hosted a large scale Robert Rauschenberg exhibition which influenced an entire generation of Chinese artists and directly led to the first radical departure of the Chinese contemporary art culminating in the "85 New Wave" movement. Synthetic Times may generate a comparable repercussion, especially among young artists.
